Water-based lubes

are the most popular. They work effectively, you can make a mess with them and they clean up very easily. There is a feeling amongst some people that water-based lubes can become less effective during use. This may be very slightly true, but it is only a minor problem.

Silicone-based lubes

are becoming more popular and more widely available. They last longer and offer a greatly enhanced and prolonged "slippery" experience. One thing to note is that If you use too much, you may experience reduced friction. With that in mind they are a far superior alternative to water-based lube. Care must be taken to clean up spills thoroughly. or you might find yourself slipping in the bathroom!

Oil-based lubes

still have their followers and remain popular. Vaseline was always thought of traditionally as the first "gay lube" and remains the but of many gay jokes! REMEMBER that oil-based lubes and condoms DO NOT MIX.

In the end, the best advice is to try a brand and see if you like it.
